A Program Using Games and Physical Exercises And Its Effect On Developing Sensory – Motor Perception in Mentally Retarded Children

Physical activity is considered one of the important means for developing an individual mentally and physically. Sensory – motor perception falls in the advanced stages of this activity. Scientists identified this sensory perception as a vial part of natural development as well as being one of the mental operations that aims at explaining the senses coming from sensory indicators. Mentally retarded children lack this ability due to their lack of attention and concentration which affect storing information and in return affect retrieving information to use in real life situations. The importance of the study lies in the necessity of paying attention to this sect of people (mentally retarded children) by developing their sensory motor perception so that they can communicate in the society that they live at. The problem of the study lies in the lack of programs dedicated for mentally retarded children and developing sensory motor perception. The researcher proposed a program for treating this problem as well as identifying the extent to which children accept this program. The research aimed at identifying the effect of this program on the development of sensory – motor perception in mentally retarded children. The researcher hypothesized the existence of statistical differences between pre and posttest in favor of posttests. He concluded that there are significant statistical differences in the development of sensory – motor perception. He finally recommended using this program and applying it in institutions specialized for teaching mentally retarded children. He also recommended making similar studies to standardize a measurement for sensory – motor perception in mentally retarded children
